TRAINING AND CAREERS
One of the key objectives of SELF is to radically improve the skills and training opportunities available to benefit the surface engineering and advanced coatings sector.

Below is a list of specific courses and providers of training relevant to our sector, which will assist those considering a career in our industry, or further develop skills for those already in employment.
SPECIALIST SURFACE ENGINEERING AND ADVANCED COATINGS COURSES
Extreme Surface Engineering and Coatings
This is a 3-day course running at Cranfield from 12-14 November. It will provide an understanding of the role that surfaces play in materials behaviour of thin film and coating systems. Sessions will review concepts of surface engineering for multiple applications and how this may be used to optimise and influence the product life cycle. Further details can be found on the Cranfield website.
Hydrogen: fundamentals and materials challenges
Cranfield University are also running an intense 4-day course on understanding the fundamental principles and testing methodologies for material challenges faced by all potential components of the hydrogen supply chain: production, storage & distribution and use. The course will cover: knowledge of hydrogen physical-chemical properties and their relation to material challenges; an understanding of experimental methods and testing standards to evaluate Hydrogen-material interaction; the role of Hydrogen as an energy carrier in a decarbonised society; an overview of Hydrogen production, storage & transportation and use technologies and related challenges.
